DEMOCRACY OR DICTATORSHIP

The most recent action by the police high command to frustrate the wishes of the people by employing delay tactics in granting permission to march against the fuel surcharge and the general state of governance in our country has fueled a growing citizens' outrage.  The organizers of the protest march were denied permission to march on the date requested and were told that a more convenient date would be given to them.  How ludicrous!

Citizens are being denied their constitutional right to peaceful protest by a Labour Party government that continues to behave like a political dictatorship.  Our Nation is supposed to be a democratic one as indicated by our Constitution but each day the actions of our government leaders lead citizens to believe that they are living under an elected dictatorship.

This is not the first time that the Labour government has trampled on the rights of citizens in this country.  As a matter of fact the leadership of P.A.M. was arrested for having a legal and peaceful march in July of 2004.  Today, the same electricity situation has propelled ordinary citizens to demonstrate their dissatisfaction with the way the labour government manages the peoples business.

The organizers of the march must be commended for their patience and restraint in the face of oppression.  However, citizens were reminded this week that the "natural desire of man cannot be forever suppressed".  Let the people march!
