NONE SO BLIND ...! “Would-Be Dictator, Cornered.”

Denzil “L” Douglas took his first step towards the establishment of his personal Dictatorship in November 1993 when the parliamentary elections resulted in both the P.A.M. and the Labour Party winning four seats each.

A traditional coalition of PAM and NRP was formed to govern because the CCM Party which won two of the three seats on Nevis chose to remain ‘neutral’.

Douglas’ first tyrannical step began with physical violence and destruction of Properties in Basseterre and island-wide in combination with fierce and active defiance of laws which guaranteed individual and national security under our Independence Constitution just ten years old.

This was the third time in our more memorable history that violence was employed to express dissatisfaction.

The Denzil Douglas Labour Party riot of 1993, 1994 and 1995 came after the Portuguese riot of 1896 and the Buckleys riot of 1935.

History has not recorded any deaths occurring in the Portuguese riots; three (3) deaths were recorded in the Buckleys riots; the 1993 to 1995 riots recorded more than seven (7) deaths.  That bloody symbolic “hand” has tainted our Land of Beauty since then.

Fear ruled the land consequently a dismayed and fearful electorate submitted to the Douglas-led political intimidation in July 1995 when Labour secured seven (7) of the eight (8) seats in St. Kitts.  In the 2000 elections Labour “won” all eight seats on St. Kitts.

The poll for 2004 saw the P.A.M. recapturing constituency number five (5), the CCM of Nevis won two (2) and the NRP won one (1).

The three opposition parties ably led by Lawyer Mark Brantley have been an effective voice and force representing the CCM, NRP and PAM supporters.

It is this force which further motivated Prime Minister Douglas and his political colleagues to move towards their efforts to establish a ‘dictatorship’.

Labour’s widely publicized and totally deceptive “Electoral Reform” strategy has placed a substantial financial burden on our tax payers and the public purse.

The key element in this subversive strategy is the illegal “reconfirmation process”.

Labour’s strategy of registering the names of a large number of its unscrupulous supporters in constituencies where they do not live between 1995 to the present, is closely linked to the gerrymandering of constituency boundaries.  It is a vile strategy which is actively and treacherously supported and condoned by a ‘Sanctimonious’ Supervisor of the electoral machinery; even directions from the judiciary pertaining to wrongful registration are routinely ignored.

Fortunately for the fair-minded and law-abiding electors among us, the People’s Action Movement has to date, correctly employed the Judicial Process and our Constitution to defeat Labour’s subversive actions.

Unfortunately the Dougl-ass-lead cabal has decided to defy all legality in order to obtain their objective.

Despite the carefully worded decision of the High Court, Denzil Douglas embarked on a deeper deception and is encouraging Labour supporters to accept his interpretation that PAM won only one percent (1%) of the judgment while Labour won ninety-nine percent (99%).

Douglas’ twisted ego in this interpretation of the scales of justice has made St. Kitts and Nevis the scandalous butt of regional cocktail party jokes.

His strenuous attempts of proving his 99% theory correct by seeking to re-introduce and legislate another ‘proclamation’ for boundary changes has been thwarted through the resignation of two opposition members from the Boundaries Commission.

These members advanced the popularly held and common-sense view along with their consciences that six-weeks were insufficient to adequately meet the conditions which should precede boundary changes.  Vis-à-vis Section 50 (2) of the Constitution.

The CCM must be congratulated for actively resisting the charade and mockery which Prime Minister Douglas has been foisting on our Federation.

The CCM has done the right thing.  It has demonstrated that our democratic process must not be faulted by a deceptive megalomaniac.  Within a period of twenty-nine (29) days, which started on Monday 16th November and ending on December 15th when the Parliament will be officially dissolved, the electors of this Federation calmly wait to see what path the “Cornered Would-be Dictator” will follow.

It is four weeks past the time of Douglas and Labour’s five year mandate:

The Prime Minister should surrender immediately and unconditionally to the advice of the three (3) parties who occupy the opposition benches to proceed immediately to call the elections.
