Dr. the Right Honourable, Sir Kennedy Simmonds, first Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis was presented with the Medal of Honour and a Queens Certificate for his contribution to Anguilla.
The presentation was made by the Acting Chief Minister and Minister of Economic Development, Finance and Tourism Victor Banks at the Ronald Webster Park during the Anguilla Day Parade on Monday May 30th.
According to The Anguillan newspaper, Sir Kennedy was awarded for being the Premier at the time in St. Kitts when the British Government passed the Anguilla Act in December 1980 severing formal links with St. Kitts/Nevis and creating the island an Overseas Territory. Sir Kennedy, it is reported, placed no obstacles in Anguilla''s way, thus agreeing to its Constitutional Separation from the rest of the State in accordance with the wishes of the Anguillians and the will of the British Government.
Dr. the Right Honourable Sir Kennedy Simmonds is currently employed by the Health Authority of Anguilla as Anaesthetist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
